Gokyo to Lukla Helicopter Flight
Overview
The Gokyo to Lukla Helicopter Flight is a scenic and convenient alternative for trekkers concluding their time at the turquoise Gokyo Lakes. Why Choose This Flight?
Booking Options & Safety
The flight is a scenic 15 to 20-minute journey. In this short time, you cover the same distance that takes a trekker 2 to 3 days to walk.
Early morning, between 06:30 AM and 11:30 AM, is ideal. The air in the Gokyo basin is most stable then, and the mountain views are generally the clearest
The helipad is located on the flat ground near the third Gokyo Lake (Dudh Pokhari). It is a convenient 5 to 10-minute walk from most lodges in the village.
Yes. Since Gokyo is a major hub for the "Everest Three Passes" trek and Gokyo Ri climbers, Group Sharing is very common. We can often match solo travelers or couples with others to make the flight more affordable.
We use high-performance B3 series "Squirrel" helicopters specifically designed for high-altitude thin air. At 4,790m, the helicopter typically carries 4 to 5 passengers, depending on the combined weight and the outside temperature.
The standard allowance is 15kg per person. Because weight is a critical safety factor for high-altitude takeoffs, please provide an accurate weight estimate for yourself and your gear when booking.
Flying to Lukla is a great "middle-ground" option. It is more affordable than a direct Kathmandu flight and allows you to catch your pre-booked fixed-wing flight from Lukla to Kathmandu while still saving your knees from 3 days of downhill trekking.
Gokyo is a very active zone. If you decide on the spot that you’ve had enough walking, you can contact us via your lodge’s communication system or WhatsApp, and we can usually arrange a seat on a passing flight within a few hours.
You will have a front-row seat to four 8,000m peaks: Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. You’ll also get a spectacular aerial view of the Ngozumpa Glacier and the turquoise Gokyo Lakes.
Yes. If you are showing signs of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) or exhaustion, this is the fastest way to descend to the lower altitude of Lukla (2,860m) for medical safety.
Absolutely. Our flights are operated by veteran mountain pilots who specialize in the Khumbu region. We strictly follow weather protocols and only fly during safe, approved windows.
